History of Reading Online Exhibition

Just another quick post to send you to this fabulous online exhibition – A Place of Reading – using some wonderful images of people reading. It comes out of the American Antiquarian Society, whose goal is to “engage scholars in the study of the history of the book”. A very pleasant way to spend some time on a Friday.

In other brief news, I’ve just been notified of my acceptance as a member of the Professional Historians Association of WA. This is great news and I’m looking forward to meeting some of the other members.

More researching today, although the building I’m working on is so invisible in the records you’d think it wasn’t ever built or used. Actually it was a fire station for 30+ years and a fairly famous art gallery after that. Frustrating!

The picture is the South Side, Main Hall, Second Building of the American Antiquarian Society, 1854–1910
